Meadowbrook Elementary first grader wins Back to School photo contest

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City student’s photo just earned his school some extra spending money.

To celebrate the new school year, NewsCenter1 along with the Elks Theater and other local sponsors, held a Back to School photo contest.

Shutter-bugs submitted photos of their little scholars to be featured on our website, nc1.tv, and a chance to win a grand prize from the Elks Theater.

This year’s winner was first grader Sawyer Leon of Meadowbrook Elementary, who won $200 in Elks gift certificates and $500 for the school.

“We’ve always been pretty supportive of the schools,” said Elks Theater Owner Curt Small. “We try to help them out, their budgets are tight like a lot of peoples and the PTAs are constantly trying to raise funds. After last year, a lot of those fundraisers weren’t possible because of circumstances.”

Seven other entries received prizes from other sponsors.
