McConnell, Pelosi signal more virus aid likely from Congress

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a shift, the top leaders in Congress made it clear Friday there will be another coronavirus rescue package as the stark need for more aid to fight the pandemic and resulting economic crisis is apparent.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in an interview with The Associated Press that health care must be at the “top of the list.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday the next coronavirus aid bill should build on the bipartisan relief bills that Congress has passed so far, rather than broader Democratic agenda items.

The leaders remarks signal a potential new opening for Congress to work together to fight the pandemic.
