Mayor declares January ‘Mentoring Month’ in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. -On Tuesday Mayor Steve Allender signing a proclamation naming January “National Mentoring Month” in Rapid City.

Mayor Allender was joined by ‘TeamMates’ mentors which is a mentoring organization in Rapid City. Students in South and North Middle School are part of the program. They can either nominate themselves to be part of the program, or they can be nominated by someone else.

In the program, the students are mentored by an adult who meets with them each week. Statistics also show that children that have positive role models tend to stay in school, get better grades, and work towards higher education.

“TeamMates” partners with Black Hills Energy, Scheels, and Monument Health.

“TeamMates” also has mentoring programs available in Spearfish, Custer, and Sioux Falls.
