Massachusetts man pleads guilty to defrauding VA facilities
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man contracted by several U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs facilities to inspect medical gas systems has pleaded guilty to billing for inspections that he did not perform.
Federal prosecutors said Thursday that 49-year-old Chester Wojcik, of Agawam, created false invoices and reports for inspections that never took place.
Medical gas supply systems deliver oxygen and other critical gases to operating and patient rooms and must be inspected and maintained regularly to ensure patient safety.
Authorities said he failed to perform inspections at VA facilities in South Dakota and Alabama.
Wojcik pleaded guilty to wire fraud. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 19.
