Marine killed in Kabul attack returns home to Jackson, Wyoming

JACKSON, Wyo. — Marine Lance Corporal Rylee McCollum was welcomed home today to Jackson, Wyoming surrounded by family, friends, and the community.

Rylee was one of thirteen killed in Kabul, Afghanistan on August 26 in a suicide bomb attack. They were providing security as the airport was overwhelmed with people trying to leave the country amid the U.S. withdrawal and Taliban takeover.

He was just 20 years old and an expectant father. His wife is due in just a few weeks.

Donations poured in for his wife and unborn child reaching at least $487,000. The funds would be for the child’s future education costs and for McCollum’s widow.

Law enforcement officers led a procession for Rylee and the streets were packed to show support.
