Marcotte property in Sturgis will remain undeveloped for the next five years

STURGIS, S.D. — The city of Sturgis moving ahead after voters rejected development of the Marcotte property.

The vote was confusing to some, as a “yes” vote meant you were against development.

But city manager Dan Ainslie says Marcotte was just one project that was in the works, and that Sturgis will continue to develop in other areas.

“Sturgis is continuing to grow in a measured, you know, responsible manner. There are three other subdivisions that are currently being constructed right now. There are a mix of price ranges; we have entry level housing up to kind of higher end housing, so that’s fantastic to see we’re continuing to grow,” Ainslie says.
