Man with dementia found after going missing from Rapid City care facility

UPDATE: The Rapid City Police Department confirms that Gerald Ice has been located in Rapid City and is safe.


RAPID CITY, S.D. – A man with dementia has gone missing from a care facility in Rapid City, and an Endangered Missing Advisory has been issued.

Gerald Eugene Ice, age 70, is Native American. He stands 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 226 pounds. Gerald has brown eyes, gray hair and is balding on top. He was last seen wearing black pants, a dark gray jacket, and a black Vietnam hat.

Gerald was last seen Wednesday evening at his care facility, located in the 900 block of Mountain View Road. Authorities believe he may try to travel to Hot Springs.

He was recently placed at the care facility and has been diagnosed with early-stage dementia. It is believed that he walked away from the facility through a hole he created in a fence.

Gerald can be unsteady on his feet when walking and is also known to use a wheelchair at times.

If you see Gerald, do not try to rescue him. Immediately call law enforcement at 605-394-4131.
