SIOUX FALLS, S.D. —A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatally shooting his brother on accident.

Jeremy Eischens, 28, accidentally killed his brother, 24-year-old Brandon Eischens at Jeremy’s Sioux Falls apartment in July of 2017.

Brandon had come to Jeremy’s apartment to drop off car keys for a drug run to Colorado.

Jeremy says that at some point during the visit he pulled a gun he’d been keeping in his pocket out to show to his brother and accidentally discharged two bullets.

Jeremy brought Brandon to an emergency room with multiple gunshot wounds, initially claiming that he had been hurt in a drive-by shooting.

Brandon passed away from his injuries, including one bullet that passed through one of his lungs and his heart.

Jeremy later admitted to accidentally shooting his brother, saying he had been drinking and using marijuana prior to the incident. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in September of 2018.

Law enforcement officials later searched the apartment and found $29,000 in cash, along with marijuana and other drugs. The gun was never found.

Jeremy had a prior criminal history, including drug arrests. In 2014 he was found guilty of assault after choking and hitting Brandon.
