Man sentenced for shooting Kyle man to death in 2018

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Kyle man was sentenced last week to serve 20 years behind bars for shooting another man to death in Kyle in the summer of 2018.

Palani Bull Bear, 22 from Kyle, was sentenced to ten years for voluntary manslaughter of Brycee Red Owl and another ten years for discharging a firearm during a crime. Both sentences will run consecutively.

On June 27, 2018, Bull Bear came across Red Owl and another man who were riding their horses near a gas station in Kyle. Court documents say both men on horseback were intoxicated. A verbal altercation began and Bull Bear pulled out a pistol, firing two rounds into the air.

The two men on horseback began chasing Bull Bear near a housing area in Kyle. The altercation turned physical and led to Bull Bear firing two rounds at Red Owl, striking him in the chest and killing him.

Bull Bear was also sentenced for a bank robbery which occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico in May 2018. He will serve the six and a half year sentence concurrently with the other sentences.
