Man sentenced for possession of 150 pounds of marijuana

PIERRE, S.D. — A man has been sentenced for his involvement in transporting around 150 pounds of marijuana across South Dakota.

Indiana resident Brendan Lee, 25, and co-defendant in the case Sara Worthman were stopped by law enforcement on February 21, 2019 for speeding on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation. During the traffic stop law enforcement found 150 pounds of marijuana hidden in the couches in the U-Haul cargo hold Lee and Worthman were hauling.

Lee plead guilty to possession with intent to distribute marijuana on June 17. On Monday, Lee was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison followed by 3 years of supervised release. Lee had purchased the marijuana in California with plans on selling it in and around Chicago, Illinois.

Worthman plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute marijuana and is awaiting sentencing on November 4.
