Man in custody for allegedly killing his brother

RAPID CITY, S.D — 54-Year-old James Ladeaux has been arrested and charged with Murder in the first degree, for the stabbing death of his 53-Year-old brother Fredrick Ladeaux.  He is also being charged with 2 additional counts of Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement.

At approximately 11:00 pm on March 18, 2019, police were called to 35 Omaha Street for a report of an unconscious male in the alleyway between Main Street and St. Joseph Street.  Upon arrival police found 2 men, one was unconscious and bleeding and the other was sitting nearby.  When police officers began life-saving measures on the unconscious male the second male refused to give officers enough room to do so.  When a second officer arrived and attempted to remove James from the area, James brandished a knife and began waving it at the officers.  James refused to listen to the officer’s commands at which time the police tasered James and were able to take him into custody.

Medical units tried additional lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful and Fredrick Ladeaux was announced dead on the scene from apparent stab wounds.

Police continue to actively investigate the events surrounding the homicide, James was placed under arrest based on the evidence at the scene and the statements made during the investigation.
