Man drowns at Rapid City’s Memorial Park

UPDATE (@ 4:02 P.M. 7/27/21) — Older male deceased after being pulled from a pond in Rapid City’s Memorial Park. Rescuers attempted to revive the man but were unsuccessful.

It took first responders a little under an hour to pull the man from the water.

The identity of the man is being withheld until notification of next-of-kin can be made.


RAPID CITY, S.D. — Law enforcement is on scene at the pond in Rapid City’s Memorial Park, looking for an individual who witnesses say went into the water to retrieve a remote-controlled boat.

Law enforcement on scene said the call came in around 2:45 p.m. and divers began search patterns as soon as the arrived.

The Rapid City Police Department, Rapid City Fire Department, and Pennington County Search and Rescue are on scene.
