makeSPACE raises $10,000 for the Spearfish community

SPEARFISH, S.D. – After a month of online fundraising, makeSPACE of Spearfish now has $13,000 to renovate their newest location. makeSPACE specializes in Arts, Cycling, and Equity. The location will be called the Makers Space and will mainly be used for creative activities in the Spearfish area.

A majority of the money was raised online, but $3,000 was won in a contest during the fundraiser.

MakeSPACE encourages community involvement and open-mindedness. They provide used bikes, crafting classes, and a place for people to come together and be creative. They also host informational meetings on social justice issues such as race and gender equality.

“So all the money that was raised will be used to finish building out the space, to the running programs and going toward our utilities and making sure that we can keep the space open and operating,” said company board member, Petrika Peters.

They take pride in welcoming people of all backgrounds and using recycled materials for their projects. If you have a creative skill and are interested in teaching a class, makeSPACE encourages that you get in contact with them.

Anyone is welcome to use the space free of charge and can choose to donate to the program if they desire to do so.
