Main Street Square taking precautions for ice rink this year

RAPID CITY, S.D. — With changes in the weather comes the annual seasonal makeover at Main Street Square.

Staff is already hard at work transitioning from the open fountain courtyard to the skating rink.

Main Street Square Executive Director, Domico Rodriguez says it takes about three to four weeks to get everything set up, and so far, the work is ahead of schedule.

He’s optimistic about this year’s skating season since the venue makes it easier to social distance.

“Obviously we want to be aware of CDC guidelines, and as it stands right now, we can host about 195 people out here safely meeting CDC guidelines, so we’re prepared,” said Rodriguez. “We’re hoping for a busy season, again being outside sure helps us.”

Weather permitting, the Main Street Square ice rink will open for the season on Saturday, November 21.
