Main Street Square has a successful holiday season

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Main Street Square had a successful holiday season this year. Both the shops and the event square were a hit.

In November, the shops participated in small business Saturday. Even Mayor Allender made an appearance at the square, encouraging people to shop locally.

For children’s gifts, Who’s Toy House had a variety of toys to choose from.

This year the all-around best seller was gift cards.

“We have sold hundreds of gift cards. We’ve had companies come in and buy 300 to 500 at a time to give to their employees,” said Main Street Square CEO Dan Senftner.

All of the businesses were throwing sales throughout the season. Sales are likely to continue for most businesses, until the new year.

There is expected to be an increased number of people using gift cards and making returns this upcoming weekend.

Throughout the season, the square holds holiday-themed events.

They hosted a tree lighting at the beginning of December. Their ice rink is also a popular attraction. They have hosted movies on the rink and ugly sweater skate parties.

The day prior to Christmas Eve they sold around 700 skating tickets.

Senftner said it is overwhelming to see how significant the square is in Rapid City.
