RAPID CITY, S.D. — An organization that helps protect young people from the dangers of the sun hosted its 13th annual fundraiser Wednesday night.

The non-profit Made for Shade held the event at the the Dahl Arts Center. The event included a wine and beer tasting, gourmet food, a silent auction and more.

All proceeds go towards providing shaded areas on playgrounds and at schools.

In the past 13 years the event has tripled in size and has received tremendous support from local businesses.

According to Made for Shade founder Dr. Lycia Scott-Thornburg, “So because of generous sponsors like Scull Construction that have joined with us, we have been able to give more grants than ever before, and in fact our requests have quadrupled and we’ve still been be able to give some money to each organization that requested money.”

Made for Shade has over a dozen sponsors and has raised almost $200,000 dollars since it was first founded.
