lifeguard stands watch at outdoor poolRAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City’s Aquatics Division announced Tuesday that it is seeking applicants for lifeguard training for next summer.

The next American Red Cross lifeguard class is scheduled for Nov. 17-20. Applicants must be 15 years old by the last day of the class, and the cost of the class is $185.

The classes include CPR, AED and first aid training, and candidates must successfully complete online course work before attending the November in-person sessions, pass written tests and complete all required physical skills to obtain certification.

“Lifeguards are key to the city providing a fun experience at our outdoor pools and at the Swim Center,” said Aquatics Specialist Barb Iwan. “Without lifeguards, we can’t open our pools and provide a great family experience. It’s a great first job, a great summer job and a great job for anyone with the proper training. Lifeguarding can be a fun and very rewarding experience. And the CPR, AED and first aid training can be valuable when needed to assist someone in distress.”

Anyone interested in the class can register online or call the Roosevelt Swim Center at 605-394-5223. Lifeguard candidates must contact Barb Iwan at Barbara.iwan@rcgov.org to obtain the link for online course work by Nov. 4 to ensure time to complete the work prior to Nov. 17-20 classes.
