Looking ahead to the Mt. Rushmore fireworks celebration

KEYSTONE, S.D. — For the first time since 2009, Mt. Rushmore will host a firework display.

The event will include a special appearance from President Donald Trump and will take place on July 3 at 4 p.m.

“Mount Rushmore National Memorial provides a unique connection to the founding of this nation for all Americans, and we are excited to welcome President Trump for an incredible firework display to celebrate this history,” said Acting Superintendent Patty Trap. “This special event will be made available to everyone virtually through livestreaming and broadcast.”

The Mount Rushmore National Memorial will be closed on Friday, June 3 starting a 12:00 a.m. and will reopen for ticketed guests at 1:30 p.m. The memorial will then reopen to the public at 5:00 a.m. on July 4. Only ticket-holders will be allowed at the Memorial during the event.

The Memorial and event parking will open to the ticket-holders at 1:30 p.m. MST on July 3, while the program will start at 4:00 p.m. Zone 1 Parking and Zone 2 Parking ticket-holders have to enter Highway 244 from Keystone. Additional instructions for ticket-holders will be sent via email.

All security checkpoints will shut down at 6:00 p.m. Ticket-holders must be in the park at this time, as it is possible that they won’t be permitted onsite.

One personal vehicle per ticket is allowed. There will be no charge for parking at the Memorial or the shuttle meeting point for ticket-holders.

No campers, buses, trailers, or oversized vehicles that can’t fit in a single standard parking spot will be allowed. Only buses that are provided by the event organizers will be permitted to enter the event. No privately chartered buses are allowed. All vehicles will be subject to a security screening.

If shuttle service is specified in the initial ticket email notification, the ticket will include a shuttle service from Rapid City to and from the Memorial for yourself and the allotted number of guests. Shuttle-ticket holders will receive detailed instructions via email.
