Local non-profits to host Community Connect for those in need

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Local non-profits will come together Tuesday to provide resources for those in need.

The Black Hills Homeless Coalition along with the Salvation Army will host a Community Connect event at the old Albertson’s on Omaha Street in Rapid City.

The event is basically a one-stop location for those in need of assistance.

The Salvation Army will provide lunch with Goodwill helping with check-in and other resources.

The event also gives the non-profits to check-in with those who are struggling.

“Spartan Nash has this wonderful building that they let us utilize for free, they don’t charge us anything for the use of the old Albertson’s store,” said Jeanne Burckhard-McKenna of the Black Hills Special Services Cooperative. “So, we’re also able to really connect with our homeless population because we’re within walking distance where most of the folks, you know, live or reside.”

A re-gifting store will also be set-up featuring items such as shoes, clothes, bedding and housewares at no cost.

The Community Connect event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Masks are required and will be provided if needed.
