Local fashion show allows people with disabilities to walk the runway
RAPID CITY, S.D. — The FashionABLE fashion show by Flutter Productions being held Saturday. Twenty-eight-year-old Tyler Brink is one of many stars of the show and NewsCenter1 got a sneak peek at his creation.
Tyler Brink has been building with Legos as long as he can remember.
“I am really into Legos. I had Lego friends. I had Lego Minecraft. I had Lego Star Wars set.”
He’s also been a part of the FashionABLE event with Flutter Productions and Black Hills Works since its beginning, three years ago.
FashionABLE has 17 participants this year.
Every year they are paired with volunteers to design and build costumes that each person will then walk in for Saturday’s fashion show.
Sara Olivier and her son Henry loved Tyler’s energy and creativity, they decided to help out.
“So we had fun, a really creative process,” said Oliver. “It started off with Tyler creating a design that was on paper. And had everything, all the colors picked out. All the ideas were worked out. And he shared that with us. And we all took a look at it and we met. And discussed how we could make that come alive off of the paper.”
Henry also enjoys building with Legos. He and Tyler have become team members, but also friends.
“These two have already spent time talking about spending time playing video games and music time together,” said Oliver. “You don’t have to know necessarily how to create an outfit. You don’t have to know how to do it you just kind of have to have the heart and have the excitement and energy and that’s all you need to be a volunteer. And you can just find all kinds of ways of connecting with people.”
Tickets for FashionABLE are available at the door Saturday, Feb. 15, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
