Little League: West River Sub-District Tournaments get underway

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The West River Sub-District Little League Tournaments kicked off on Thursday at the Canyon Lake Little League Field in Rapid City.

Seven teams from around the Black Hills are battling for two spots in the Little League State Tournament which will run July 19-22 in Rapid City.


Harney 6, Spearfish 1

The Harney All-Stars opened the tournament with a 6-1 win over Spearfish.

Mason Brooks led Harney with two hits and two RBIs.

Meanwhile, Jack Dvorak pitched two and one third innings for Harney and finished with five strikeouts, while Braden Ericks worked four innings on the mound for Spearfish and had four strikeouts.


Timberline 14, Sturgis 2

A little league baseball player from Sturgis talks with his coach on Thursday night.

Sturgis grabbed a 2-1 lead after the first inning but after that, it was all Timberline.

Timberline scored seven runs in the sixth inning and rolled over Sturgis, 14-2 in the opening round of the Sub-District Tournament.

The Timberline All-Stars were led by Ian Beer and Braydon Fox who each had three hits apiece.

Colton Morlang was outstanding on the mound for Timberline. He went three and two third innings and finished with eight strikeouts.



Canyon Lake 10, Rushmore 0

Sam Lust had two hits and two RBIs to help lead Canyon Lake over Rushmore, 10-0 during the opening day of the West River Sub-District ‘A’ Tournament.

Ryan Larson worked four innings for Canyon Lake and had five strikeouts.

Spearfish vs Sturgis          2:30 p.m.

Canyon Lake vs Belle Fourche    5 p.m.

Harney vs Timberline      7:30 p.m.
