Lindbergh Ave closed as RCFD works at residential structure fire

UPDATE: (10:48 p.m.)- In a release from the Rapid City Fire Department, firefighters arrived at around at the scene just before 8:30 p.m.

Stations 1, 3 and 7 responded to the report of a structure fire in the 600 block of Lindbergh Avenue in northern Rapid City.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke conditions inside the home with the fire located on one end of the home. Firefighters reacted quickly and were able to stop the forward progress of the fire. The home sustained heavy smoke damage.

One occupant of the home was inside when the fire broke out. That individual was able to escape safely and was evaluated by RCFD EMS. The occupant refused treatment and support.

Crew members remained on the scene until after 10:00 p.m. completing overall and mop-up of hot spots. Firefighters will periodically monitor the scene throughout the night.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Rapid City Fire Department.

UPDATE (9:48 p.m.) – The Rapid City Fire Department has extinguished the fire on Lindbergh Ave.

Equipment has been put away, and crews are finished. The road is now open to normal traffic. The fire department thanks you for your patience.

Crews are finishing up overhaul and are dousing hot spots.

One occupant is currently being evaluated by EMS for smoke inhalation. Red Cross Dakotas has been called in to assist.

The 600 block of Lindbergh remains closed at this time.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — In a tweet, the Rapid City Fire Department announced that Lindbergh Ave between Haines Ave and Minuteman Dr. is closed as crews work at a structure fire.

The residential structure fire is located in the Ridge Stone Mobile Home Community.
