Lightning strikes car windshield near Rauville
Rauville, S.D. — A vehicle near Rauville was struck on the windshield by lightning Thursday.
There were no injuries, but the electrical systems of the vehicle were fried.
When lightning strikes a vehicle, the lightning will strike the antenna or along the roof line. The lightning will then pass through the vehicle’s outer metal shell, then through the tires to the ground.
A portion of the discharge may find its way into the vehicle’s electrical system and may damage or destroy electronic components, potentially leaving the car inoperable.
