Legion Baseball: Post 22 falls to Renner in State Finals

Renner captures both Sr. and Jr. State Legion Titles

MITCHELL, S.D. —  Since 1961, Rapid City Post 22 has dominated American Legion baseball.

In fact, the Hardhats won their 42nd state title last year.

The Hardhats were hoping to make it number 43 on Tuesday, as they squared off against Renner in the state finals.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.

Renner scored six runs in the fourth inning and held on to capture its first ever state American Legion senior championship with a 6-4 win over Post 22.

Jace Caldwell led Post 22 with three hits in four at bats.

Renner now advances to the Central Plains Regional Tournament, Aug. 7-11 in Sioux Falls.

Post 22 wraps up the season with a 47-15 record.
