Lead man identified as victim in fatal UTV crash

Correction: The information news outlets, including NewsCenter1, received from law enforcement about the accident and the victim’s identity referred to the vehicle, a Polaris Ranger, as an ATV. Because Polaris markets the Ranger as a UTV which does have seatbelts, we have corrected this article to refer to the vehicle as a UTV.

LEAD, S.D. — A 59-year-old Lead man has been identified as the victim in the Wednesday afternoon fatal UTV crash on Highway 14A.

James Luze Jr. was driving a 2016 Polaris Ranger UTV westbound in a ditch south of US. Hwy. 14A when he lost control and rolled.

Luze was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the UTV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
