Lead-Deadwood students get firsthand look at snowmobile team

LEAD, S.D. — High school students in Lead-Deadwood had an up-close look at equipment used by an Air Force team Thursday.

The exhibit was presented courtesy of the Scheuring Speed Sports team from Minnesota.

The Air Force sponsors a Scheuring snowmobile team, and gave students a lesson into how much work goes into managing and servicing a race team.

They had transporter and race sleds for students to see along with all the equipment that goes along with the machines.

“The Air Force actually sponsors one of the teams in the event,” said Tsgt. Jon Hatton. “Steve Sheuring, he’s here every year and the Air Force sponsors the race not only in Deadwood but we do sponsor the team. We are here to support them obviously they support us it’s kind of a great relationship for the two of us and every year we get to come out and talk to the students before the event that takes place.”

Lead-Deadwood High School was selected to hold the event by the Rapid City Air Force Recruitment Office.
