Lawrence County law enforcement warns citizens of scams

LAWRENCE COUNTY, S.D. — Law enforcement agencies of Lawrence County want to remind all citizens to be aware of and avoid falling victim to scams.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the Spearfish Police Department have recently received reports of fraudulent offers/scams relating to property sales and rentals within Lawrence County. The reports begin with online realty rentals and sales postings.

Both the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the Spearfish Police Department encourage realty agreements to be completed in person and to use an in-person realtor whenever possible.

The two agencies further encourage citizens to be cautious of any transactions that require payment through gift cards or online cash transaction applications without first properly vetting the seller, landlord, or property manager in person.

If you have any concerns, please contact the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office at 605-578-2230 or the Spearfish Police Department at 605-642-1300 for further investigation.
