Lawn fire spreads almost 4.5 acres

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A grass fire started while mowing the lawn.

A spark occurred from the lawn mower hitting a rock causing the fire to spread in the dry grass.

The fire burned almost four-and-a-half acres on one person’s property, firefighters say it had the potential to spread but they were able to get it under control quickly.

Multiple fire crews including Rapid City Fire Department and Black Hawk Fire Department were on scene.

Incident Commander, Eric O’Connor says “The dry grass and strong winds can cause problems during these months not usually considered to be fire season.”

No injuries and no damage were done to the house or surrounding property.
