Law enforcement hosts pumpkin giveaway

RAPID CITY, S.D. –  Pennington county Sheriff Kevin Thom and Box Elder Police Chief Jason Dubbs invite the public to join them for their sixth annual Inmate Garden Pumpkin Giveaway. This free event brings the community together with law enforcement for a popular fall tradition.

“With the cool, wet spring, our pumpkins were replanted at least twice. Numbers are down a bit, but there are still plenty to go around,” says Sheriff Kevin Thom. “We rely on former Correctional Officers Bill Atyeo and Leo Spear for their outstanding efforts with the inmates and the garden this challenging year!”

Join local law enforcement for a fun-filled afternoon at the Jail Inmate Garden located across the street from the Box Elder City Hall, 4:00-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 8. Refreshments and cookies will also be served. Organizers will be able to give away one pumpkin per child on a first come, first served basis.
