Law enforcement agencies join forces for Lakota Nation Invitational

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and Rapid City Police Department (RCPD) worked together to assure that LNI went smoothly.

With large events, containing large crowds, it’s always important to have law enforcement and security to make sure everyone has a good time.

BIA works on the federal level while RCPD is municipal. Together they were able to exchange knowledge and skills to better serve the community.

“Ultimately if there were something to happen that would pose a risk I’m highly confident that we’re able to mitigate that immediately and have a really good response. We appreciate the support of the BIA and all the tribal officers that are here assisting us,” said Chief Karl Jegeris, with RCPD.

Although officers are there to ensure safety, the event was a great way for officers to engage with the community. Many of the BIA officers are school resource officers, so they recognize and are better able to connect with some of the youth.
