Lance Pearson to remain Head Rapid City Central High School Wrestling coach
Lance Pearson will remain the head wrestling coach at Rapid City Central High School after the Rapid City Areas Schools withdrew allegations of Pearson violating COVID-19.
RAPID CITY, S.D. — After not having his contract renewed, Rapid City Central High Wrestling Coach Lance Pearson has his job back.
Pearson and all the wrestling coaches were released after allegations that they violated the Rapid City Area Schools’ COVID-19 protocols.
But after an outcry from the Central High School community, the district is bringing back Pearson.
Cory brown has two sons who wrestle for Pearson.
He was an organizer of a gathering of students and parents who expressed their displeasure with the firing.
Brown says the coaches are well respected, and parents wanted to voice their concerns after Pearson was let go.
“That’s why we were so fired up about this situation because we were about ready to lose our entire coaching staff and it was just mind blowing to us,” Brown said. “They’re very successful and well respected throughout the state and it just very quickly became a very big issue for our parents group.”
No decision has been yet on whether the other coaches will also be reinstated.
