K-9 unit takes down suspect in meth-related bust

Rapid City Police have made yet another meth-related bust.

On Monday around 5:20 p.m., police responded to 2110 Jackson Boulevard for a report of a suspect with several active warrants for his arrest. Police made contact with 29-year-old Travis Wheeler as he tried to exit the building.

Wheeler took off running, throwing several personal items out of his pockets. A K-9 unit was released and brought the suspect to a halt, biting Wheeler and taking him to the ground.

Testing confirms that Wheeler was under the influence of methamphetamines. He has been arrested for Ingestion of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest, and his three Warrants (related to a misdemeanor DUI charge, a felony bond revocation warrant for 3rd Burglary, and a felony bond revocation warrant related to Possession of Controlled Substance).
