Juvenile suspect in custody after stolen vehicle hit-and-run

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Around 5:06 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, the Rapid City Police Department was called to 1601 Haines Avenue for a report of an owner of a stolen vehicle who located it at a gas station in Rapid City.

According to Sergeant Fees of the RCPD, the female owner of the vehicle identified the driver at a Loaf ‘N Jug off Haines Avenue and attempted to confront them. When the juvenile driver was leaving, they ran over the vehicle owner who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The driver also hit another vehicle that was unrelated to the incident as they were trying to leave. The vehicle and driver was located near the location of the incident by the RCPD. The driver was taken into custody.

The incident stemmed from when the owner of the vehicle reported her 2006 Ford 500 Sedan stolen in Box Elder earlier in the afternoon around 4 p.m.
