JUMP STREET: Stuntman Cole Freeman highlights rally’s closing ceremonies

STURGIS, S.D. — They say all things must come to an end, and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally isn’t immune.

Closing Ceremonies 4Although the rally ends Sunday, the City of Sturgis held its closing ceremonies on Saturday at Rally Point.

The ceremony for the 82nd Sturgis Rally began with a speech from Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen, who thanked the sponsors and rally-goers for their support of the event.

To give the rally the proper sendoff, Stuntman Cole Freeman jumped Main Street Sturgis on a Harley Davidson Motorcycle. It’s the third year, Freeman says, that he’s hoping to carry on the legend of daredevil Evil Knievel.

“What a way to end it, you know? I’m the only man in the world to jump a motorcycle over Main Street Sturgis,” Freeman said. “It’s my third time doing it. It’s a great privilege to have it. I want to keep doing it. I think it’s a great way to end the rally and let’s just keep doing it that way.”

Following Freeman’s jump, the city also unveiled the logo for next year’s rally.
