Jersey City’s mayor says gunmen targeted kosher market
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The mayor of Jersey City says it’s clear that gunmen in a furious shooting that left six people dead targeted a Jewish market.
Mayor Steven Fulop isn’t calling Tuesday’s shooting an anti-Semitic attack. But he said Wednesday that surveillance video shows the gunmen got out of their van at a kosher grocery store after bypassing other buildings on the way. The state attorney general and other law enforcement officials haven’t said whether the shooters targeted Jews.
The city public safety director says terrorism isn’t suspected. A police officer, three bystanders and two suspects all died in the violence.
