It’s National Women Physicians Day!
Hospitals and clinics across the United States are celebrating National Women Physicians Day on Friday.
It honors female doctors and marks the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell. She was the first woman to receive a medical degree in the U.S. back in 1849.
Dr. Blackwell also started the movement to help women gain entry and equality in medicine.
National Women Physicians Day started in 2016 and organizers say it’s a great way to celebrate female doctors, as well as raise awareness about the challenges female physicians still face.
