Innovative Systems Donates $500,000 to SD Mines scholarships

Sd MinesRAPID CITY, S.D. —  On Tuesday, Innovative Systems from Mitchell, South Dakota gifted $500,000 to the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in support of the establishment of the Innovative Systems/Alpine Investors Scholarships.

Children of Innovative Systems employees who attend South Dakota Mines as well as students from the Mitchell region will be the first to benefit from this fund.

In order to qualify for the scholarship, students must study electrical engineering, computer science or computer engineering and maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. according to a release from South Dakota Mines.

“This visionary gift to the university will help ensure a constant pipeline of bright, young graduates who are eager and willing to help grow our state,” says Mines President Jim Rankin. “This partnership between Innovative Systems and South Dakota Mines will drive economic opportunities forward in places like Mitchell and beyond.”

Innovative Systems was founded by Roger Musick who graduated from the School of Mines in 1971 with a degree in electrical engineering.

With a partnership formed by Innovative Systems and Alpine Investors in 2020, the two companies are investing in local communities and providing pathways for students focused on technology and science to earn a degree and stay in South Dakota.

“Connecting rural communities is core to our mission at Innovative Systems,” says Ali Jenab, Innovative Systems CEO. “This gift will enable young talent to stay close to home while helping to bridge the digital divide. We are proud of the communities we serve and wanted to create an opportunity for students in towns like Mitchell to thrive.”
