Inmate from Rapid City minimum-security unit placed on escape status

Thumbnail InmatealexandercookRAPID CITY, S.D. — A 29-year-old minimum-security inmate has been placed on escape status after failing to return to the Rapid City Community Work Center on Monday.

Alexander Cook, who is serving a sentence for possession of a controlled substance out of Pennington County, did not return following a work release on December 27.

Cook is a white male, five-foot-seven, and weighs approximately 170 lbs. with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information on Cook’s whereabouts should contact law enforcement immediately.

Failure to return to custody following a work assignment constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
