Inmate Clarence Ferris back in custody after September 2020 escape

RAPID CITY, S.D. — State prison inmate Clarence Ferris, who left the Rapid City Community Work Center without authorization on September 12, 2020, is back in custody.

Ferris was arrested in Rapid City on April 15 and is being held at the Pennington County Jail.

He is serving a five year sentence with one year suspended for possession of a controlled substance, a two year sentence for eluding, and a five year sentence for unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substances. All of those convictions are from Pennington County.

Leaving a non-secure correctional facility without authorization constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
