Indoor playground offers adventure inside

Outside In - Children’s Indoor Playground is now offering a place to go, where kids can find adventure inside.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the obesity epidemic has increased dramatically in children. One of the causes of childhood obesity is lack of physical activity.

In an effort to prevent obesity from climbing, experts suggest ways families can incorporate healthy habits into their busy lives. A new facility in Rapid City is helping parents with that goal, because during the South Dakota winter months, parents are a little hard-pressed to find places for kids to play.

Outside In – Children’s Indoor Playground is now offering a place, where kids can find adventure inside.

Kelsey Demers, co-owner of Outside In- Children Indoor Playground, says, “We did a lot of research especially concerning the childhood obesity epidemic. We knew that our kids needed to burn off energy … to help with just kids staying more active and trying to get the 30 to 60 minutes of play every day.”

The 5,000 square-foot play center has designated play areas for newborns, toddlers and children up to 10 years old. Most equipment is even safe for adult use, so you can play alongside your child or engage with other parents while your kids are playing. The play structures – the grassy dunes, the camper and clouds for lights are all influenced by the great outdoors.

Demers says, “Our mission is to create a safe, clean and an affordable environment for adults to engage with each other and their children. That’s really what we have created here, and our inspiration has been the Black Hills and the outdoors. We are Black Hills enthusiasts. We love hiking, biking and camping, and we thought we need to have that kind of outside sense of adventure in our playground.”

So no matter what Mother Nature is throwing our way, kids can play safe while parents can enjoy each other’s company.

Martine Kline, from the MOMS Club of Rapid City, says, “We love this place … what I love is that I have a 7-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 1-year-old, and all three of them are playing right now. It’s so nice to have a place where kids can burn off some energy on a cool day or rainy day.”

Outside In – Children’s Indoor Playground is open seven days a week and offers birthday party packages.
