Increased DUI enforcement over Labor Day weekend

RAPID CITY, S.D. — With a warm, if not hot, Labor Day weekend upon us expect lots of people to be out-and-about.

Drinking and driving is always an issue for law enforcement. During holiday weekends, there’s usually an influx of people on the road and at the lakes making for an increased police presence at both.

“We want people to have fun but we want you to have fun responsibly,” said Sergeant Billy Davis of the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. “We have extra enforcement action for the highway safety stuff so there will be people out their specifically working speed, seat belt enforcement. And then we are gonna have shifts every night over the weekend for DUI enforcement specific.”

Sergeant Davis reminds anyone going out on the water to drink responsibly and not to operate any boat or jet ski while under the influence.
