Show-Rite Youth Sheep & Goat Show gives kids first-hand animal show experience
RAPID CITY, S.D.– The next generation of livestock showers got some first-hand experience in the ring on Friday. Kids from across the state showed up at the Barnett Field House at The Monument for the 2023 Show-Rite Youth Sheep & Goat Show.
The junior show gives kids from 4-H and Future Farmers of America an opportunity to showcase their animals without the competition of other livestock shows. This is the second year for the event at the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo.
2023 Show-Rite Youth Sheep & Goat Show:
Organizers say that shows like this not only give kids experience showing animals but they also get to meet other showers and make connections along the way.
“These kids travel all over just to get these animals out into another show ring. And with that comes meeting people and being able to communicate with different groups of people from different states. Meeting new kids and finding lifelong friends honestly” Show Manager for the Black Hills Stock Show Casey Huckfeldt said.
Friday was the goat portion of the youth show with sheep being shown on Saturday starting at noon in the Barnett Field House.
