House votes to override Gov. Noem’s veto of hemp bill

PIERRE, S.D. — The House has voted to override Gov. Noem’s veto of House Bill 1191, a measure to legalize industrial hemp.

The override comes after Gov. Noem vetoed HB 1191 Monday evening, citing concerns that it could complicate law enforcement searches and lead to the legalization of recreational marijuana.

In order for an override to be successful, a two-thirds majority vote would need to happen in both the House and Senate.

The Senate’s vote on the matter is expected to come soon. Newscenter1 will bring you an update on the outcome when it becomes available.
