Hot Springs teachers parade through streets to encourage students
HOT SPRINGS, S.D. — Teachers in Hot Springs paraded through the streets, Sunday, to let their students know they miss them.
Teachers drove around town with a police escort, honking and waving to the community members and students, who’ve been out of school several weeks now.
The teachers wanted to bring some joy to the community while following the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) social distancing guidelines.
“I think we needed to send a message that, hey we are all okay, it is gonna be okay,” said Randi Black, event organizer. “And we are all in this together, you know as parents, teachers, community members and we are all gonna be okay.”
Students and teachers face at least one more month apart after Governor Kristi Noem extended statewide school closures until May 1st.
