Hot Springs hosts Memorial Day ceremony
HOT SPRINGS, S.D. — On Monday, Hot Springs remembered and honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
A Memorial Day ceremony hosted by Michael J. Fitzmaurice at State Veterans Home was held Monday morning. Due to rain showers however, the event was moved to the Mueller Center.
The Ellsworth Color Guard posted the colors to begin the ceremony and patriotic music was performed by the Hot Springs Community Band and the Sandstone Singers. Keynote speaker Lt. Gov. Larry Rhoden took the time to recognize the workers at the veteran’s home.
Lt. Gov. Rhoden says, “For the past two years, the employees have given their all in keeping individuals safe, happy and healthy. It’s one of the reasons that this is a five star rated facility.”
There was also a presentation from VFW Auxiliary State Commander Wanda Mix followed by a wreath laying ceremony.
