RAPID CITY, S.D. – Tee It Up for the Troops is a non-profit charitable foundation that hosts a golf tournament for veterans each year and for the first time, they’re bringing it to the Black Hills.

Joey Franze is the Tee It Up fo r the Troops Black Hills Tournament Coordinator. “Tee It Up for the Troops began in 2005. And it happened we had a n army soldier that was deployed in Iraq right around that same time frame. His parents asked, you know, what can we do for you while you’re deployed? He actually replied back to them, don’t worry about me. Worry about every body coming back and their family members. And that’s how Tee It Up for the Troops got its beginning back in 2005.”

So now, almost 15 years later, Tee It Up for the Troops is bringing the tournament and community outreach to us here in South Dakota on Monday, July 15th at Arrowhead Golf Course. With the help of community participation and business sponsorship, Tee It Up for the Troops is able to raise a lot of money for other non-profits across the country.

“The money that’s raised here locally will go to the Fisher House which is similar to the Ronald McDonald House out in the civilian world that our military uses as well as War Fighter Sports which our closes War Fighter Sports facility is actually in in Denver, Colorado. They’re purpose is to help rehab our injured veterans when they come back from war and be able to get them back on the golf course as well as other sporting events. And then locally we have Super Dogs for Super Heroes who also benefit from our event,” said Franze.

The Tee It Up for the Troops golf tournament is not only a great way to give back, but it’s also a way for our injured service members to get the help they need.

Franze added, “this is an excellent resource to get our veterans out there. Many of our veterans will have actually invisible wounds, which could be P.T.S.D. or emotional disorders from their time in combat. As well as, we’ll have some wounded warriors from the Denver area that’s been a part of the Tee It Up for the Troops for a long time. So they’re actually coming up and they’re excited to be a part of this inaugural event.”

The tournament is set to take place on Monday at Arrowhead Golf Course in Rapid City with the opening ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. For more information, click here.
