Honor Their Service: Outside In
Our country was built on people fighting for freedom and the freedom of generations to come. Every hour, every minute of every day, our service men and women are across the globe, putting their lives in danger for us. NewsCenter 1 would like to recognize those people and the people who advocate for them here at home.
In this week’s edition of “Honor Their Service,” we take a look at a veteran-led disaster response team that is providing assistance and support to people who have been devastated by flooding on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
RAPID CITY, S.D. – Outside In is a children’s indoor playground that allows parents and their children to enjoy time together in a safe space.
As we celebrate Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 18th, Outside In is offering one free child’s admission per service member or veteran on Friday May 17th.
Kelsey DeMers is the Co-owner of Outside In. “My sister is a veteran. We also have a brother who is currently serving so we wanted to offer this to the community and to the men and women who are serving in this community. We felt really strongly about that this year to offer that free admission to them.”
And with the sometimes harsh weather that can come with the Black Hills, this is a great option for parents and caregivers to bring their little ones for some much needed play time.
“We obviously have winter ten months out of the year here, a lot of the times. We knew
that we needed a place to go. We also have little ones so there just wasn’t anywhere to go here in the winter, especially a place to engage with your children as much in a contained space as well. So we really like to offer that place for parents, caregivers, their friends, family, can all get together have a coffee and watch their kids play and play with their children and have that space here that’s a safe and clean place as well,” said DeMers.
