History of Post 22 Baseball up for grabs

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Fitzgerald stadium is about to get a major facelift, but before they do, they’re offering a chance to own a piece of American Legion Baseball history.

After 50 seasons for The Hard Hats at the ‘old fitz’ it’s time to make some changes.

Renovating everything from the entrance to the outfield wall, the stadium will have new seating while restrooms and a shade canopy. But before that, all the old stuff has to go. So Post 22 has opened up bidding to the fans.

“You want people to have that opportunity to preserve history,” said Wayne Sullivan, the General Manager of Post 22 Baseball. “You just don’t want to just come in and bulldoze everything and then there’s nothing left. So again, we’re taking many many pictures so we can have a before and after. But again, a piece of the heart, a piece of Rapid City. You want to come and get a piece of that whether it’s a piece of sod, whether it’s grass, whether it’s a cup full of dirt. Something that you know that you have built Rapid City baseball.”

Interested parties can inquire about items at Fitzgerald’s ticket booth. But you better move quickly as everything must go by the night of Sunday, July 19 before renovations begin next week.
