Highway Patrol prepares for Sturgis Rally traffic

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is already busy making preparations for the 75th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

In order to deal with the high volumes of traffic, off-ramp congestion sensors will be installed in the area that will automatically update electronic signs to alert traffic to delays.

Organizers say they expect 1 million people for the weeklong event, more than double the usual crowd for an event that yields hundreds of citations and arrests, even in an ordinary year.
