Highway Patrol issues safety reminder to UTV’ers in the Black Hills

Utv Atvs 16BLACK HILLS, S.D. — Custer County Emergency Management says they’ve seen several instances recently of people not following safety laws regarding UTV use in the Black Hills.

South Dakota Highway Patrol issued a reminder that helmets are required for anyone under 18 and eye protection is required if the UTV has no windshield. Seat belts should always be worn.

Trail riding with your UTV in the Black Hills requires a Forest Service trail permit, which can be purchased at various locations around the Hills.

A license plate is required for any UTV operated on a Highway or public road.
